Great Smokies Eco-Adventure is a great event that actually takes place at the Sugarlands Visitors Center. The event is enjoyed by many people and you can find out more information about this camping event at the local news channel WATE.

May 4 

Do you want to watch younger basketball players playing their hardest to possibly win a scholarship? If thats the case, then the Rocky Top Invitational will be a great destination for you to check out. Find out more information at Rocky Top Sports World.

May 5 

Cinco De Mayo with James Leigh & The Rest is taking place at Sugarlands Distilling Company. You can find out more information at the Sugarlands Distilling website.

Chick-a-Dees is a hands on Gatlinburg event. The event is for people who want to paint and it does cost 48 dollars so be prepared to have a hefty price tag. This event allows you to paint on a 11×14 acrylic canvas and have at least one bird on the painting. Find out more at Eventbrite.

Cobwebs and Fireflies is another art project. This one is using watercolors and is a 2 ½ hour class. The painting class does cost 55 dollars, but you will learn from a master artists who has done art work for over 60 years! Find out more information at Eventbrite.

Creation Stations-Body Butter & Shower Gel is another event that will actually be happening on multiple days. The event does cost 20 dollars, but in this event you get a chance to create your own body butter and shower gel! Not only that you can use multiple fragrances and colors to get the perfect product. Flint Knapping is taking place at various times as well. The cost is 40 dollars per student and it is required that you bring safety or shop glasses. The presenter for this program has done flint knapping for years and can teach you an invaluable skill. Find out more at Eventbrite.

Imprinting Art with Leaves & Plants may not seem like is that exciting, but it is actually an older form of art. You will be able to create original artwork with leaves and plants, but also cook in a turkey roaster! The cost is 48 dollars per student. More information can be found at Eventbrite.

Everyone seems to love a slight of hand magic trick. Now this event is one you can become the magician with Magic Tricks You Can Make. The event cost 35 dollars per student and you can learn how to make tricks with common items. Find out more information and get tickets at Eventbrite.

Oil Painting the Smoky’s is a great way to seal a memory for a lifetime and bring a sense of pride to your newest art piece. This class is a little bit more expensive at 85 dollars per student, but includes the color mixing, drawing, and even makes it easier for you to learn how to paint with oils. Take and Horsehair Pottery Class is a 48 dollar class and allows you to fire your own Raku or Horsehair pot. This is a pot that you get to keep . You can choose the glazing that you want to have and the design. Due to the nature of this course it is advised to wear jeans, long sleeve shirt, and close toed shoes. Stained Glass Angel is a pricey class as well at 85 dollars per student. However, in this class you learn two basic skills of making stained glass. If the stained glass angels are not really your thing, then you may want to check out the stained glass square suncatcher. Weave a Necklace may seem like it is a childlike event, but weaving is still a skill that is used in many cultures. The event is 25 dollars per person and allows you to weave a necklace on a small loom. You can find out more information at Eventbrite.

Crackpot Bears and Penguins are classes that are going to show you how to take your crackpot bears or penguins and paint them into the stunning characters that you see. 2 Cat with Pumpkin Light is another class that you can use to paint these lovely items. The cost is 40 dollars per student and you can find out more information at Eventbrite.

Butterflies and Cherry Blossoms is a great watercolor workshop that will teach you how to make a great painting and to use Museum Matting that makes a great picture. Find out more about this 55 dollar class at Eventbrite.

Chair Bottoming 101 is a class that can be useful for people with older furniture or wanting to learn a new skill. The cost is 65 dollars per student and you will learn from David Weater on how to bottom a vintage Chiles chair using reed. Find out more information about this class at Eventbrite.

Earrings Are like Onions is an event that will teach you how to make your own earrings. This is a fun event and allows you to use lightweight materials to make earrings that will have more depth and meaning to them than what you can find at the store. If you do not want to do the many layers of an earring or just want a pendant then you will like the making earrings and a pendant with a UV resin and Glitter Rod course. This is a 40 dollar course, but does teach you quite a bit of a new skill. You can find out even more at Eventbrite.

Modern Lava Tree is a course that cost 55 dollars per person, but it is a great course taught by Steve. In the course Steve will teach you how to paint and layer your own modern day lighted lava tree. Find out more about the class at Eventbrite.

Rings, Rings, Rings is a 60 dollar course and will teach you the technique and several designs using copper or brass using some of the very simple forging and metal techniques. Weave A Bear is kind of like Build-a-bear except you are not making a stuffed bear. Instead you are going to use a little loom to weave your own bear and have a keepsake that will remind you of the Smokies. The cost is only 25 dollars per student. Do you want a basket? I mean who does not want a basket and here you can find out how to weave a round basket of your own. The cost is 45 dollars per student, but you will find out how to weave a round basket on a slotted wooden base. You can find out even more information at Eventbrite

A Trio of Porcelain Pieces is a great way to learn how to paint on porcelain using alcohol inks. This is still a newer art form, but one that can allow you to have memories that last for years to come. Find out more information at Eventbrite.

Bluebird Remark Watercolors is a great way to learn how to paint a nice watercolor with different strokes that can bring your watercolor painting to life. The water color is a 5×7, but will be placed into an 11×14 mat with instructions on how to finish your art work. Find out more information for this 48 dollar class at Eventbrite.

House Number Sign is a great way to learn how to make your own house number sign. The sign will look great and makes your home stand out, but you also get several different shades of colors to use. The cost is only 35 dollars per student and more information can be found out at Eventbrite.

Weave and Ornament is another class that is fairly inexpensive at 25 dollars per student and this is a course that could be family friendly and allow your younger kids to make something for the Christmas tree or an ornament to bring home with them to remember their Gatlinburg trip. A Memorial Day Cookout is being hosted by the Arrow Creek Campground as well. Just like the Muffins with Mom even that is listed above, we could not find much information regarding this event online. So we would recommend contacting Arrow Creek Campground.

The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts will be hosting a great event on Tapestry Weaving starting on this date and running until June 2nd. You can find out more information from the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts website.

Observationally-Based Oil Painting is another course that is being offered at the Arrowmont School and runs the same time period as the other 2 listed above. More information is available at the same exact link.

Just as above the Arrowmont school is offering a course that requires precision work. The art of 3-dimensional wire structure design is a great course and one that will challenge people of all ages.

Gatlinburg in May 2023

As you can see Gatlinburg in May 2023 is choked full of events. However, the front part of the month is heavier in the event category that are official events. That comes from the fact that many of the events are part of the Gatlinburg Hands On Events. This is an event that in Gatlinburg in May 2023 is taking a lot of time to get interactive! With that being the case, the lack of events on certain dates does mean you can go out and enjoy the mountains or the parkway even more! No matter what, get out their and enjoy the mountains as Gatlinburg in May 2023 is a great time to catch the changing of the seasons before the summer heat hits.
