Riding a horse in the mountains may be something that some people have always dreamed of doing, but never had a chance to do before. However, what you need to realize is this is possible when you are in Gatlinburg and more importantly near the Sugarlands area of the Great Smoky Mountains. This actually is a lot easier than what you would expect as the Sugarlands area and even the Sugarlands office for the National Park is one of the first major stops you will notice when you go into the national park from Gatlinburg. One aspect that not many people know about is the Sugarland Riding Stables, which is going to change as we are going to provide our review on this great and unique Gatlinburg attraction.

What We Like About The Sugarlands Riding Stables

The horses are obviously one of the first things that we are going to mention here about the stables. If you have never been riding they have the perfect horses for you as these are well trained and maintained trail horses. The horses are extremely gentle and they are going to make it easier for you to get on the horse and know you will be safe while you are taking the ride on the horses back. However, at the same time you will notice the horses are absolutely gorgeous and definitely are an animal you will fall in love with.

Mountains and beauty is something else you will enjoy with this ride. Now, I know that some of the horseback riding places only takes you on a short guided tour. However, this is a ride that will take you wrapping around the mountains on trails, but also into areas that you never would have imagined seeing before. Throw in the fact you are sitting on top of a horse and it becomes quite a bit easier for you to see things you would have missed before and it will be easier for you to see this is a beautiful way to get out and see the mountains.

Guided tours are another factor you are going to enjoy as well. Normally you would think about a tour like this being on horse and that as having just the trainer with the horses. However, when you are on this tour from the Sugarlands Horse Stables you will find they are going to provide you with a great opportunity to have a guided tour around the region, who can point out different aspects of the mountains for you, but also makes it easier for you to find some of the wildlife in the region.

A Word Of Caution About Sugarlands Riding Stables

Now this is not so much what we do not like, but more of a word of caution. If you are a loyal reader you know we usually list what we do not like. However, here we are going to list some of the things that we do not really like. The first thing is the weight limit, which is 225 pounds. That is more for your safety and the safety of the horses as well. So if you are over this weight limit you will not be able to go riding.

The second word of caution and a way to air on the side of safety is the children. Children under the age of five are not allowed to go onto the horses either. This is so they do not get injured, but if your kids are like mine when they were under that age and even in some regards over that age they are going to constantly move around. This often leads to the horses getting hurt or the kids falling.

Our Final Thoughts On Sugarland Riding Stables

This is a great way to spend part of your day in Gatlinburg. It allows you to do something unique, but at the same time it allows you to see the mountains from a perspective that not many people get to see. Well, they can if they take advantage of the stables, but so many people overlook the stables that it is one of those parts that not everyone is going to experience. Overall, this is a great adventure and well worth the price because of all you get to see and do, but also because of the beauty of the mountains that you get to see, but may have missed if you had not taken the horseback ride.
